The Upsilon Chapter of Kappa Alpha was established on October 1st, 1881 as the 10th men's fraternity at UNC-Chapel Hill and as the 20th chapter of Kappa Alpha nationwide. Upsilon Chapter takes great pride in being a "Single Letter" chapter and has been in continual operation for over a century.
A graduate from 1949, George went on to a very successful film and television career, winning a Grammy, a Primetime Emmy and a Tony Award.
George, a chapter inductee in 1956, was inducted into the North Carolina Music Fall of Fame in 2010 after a 54 year career in the music industry.
A graduate from 2001, Jefferson serves as a judge in the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Jefferson served as a Number I while an undergraduate member of the chapter.
Upsilon Chapter constantly fundraises for all-terrain track chairs for severely wounded veterans.
The Order’s national philanthropy since 1975. Anytime MDA has events in the triangle, the chapter volunteers their time
The chapter hosts annual drives, not just for blood donations, but plasma and Be The Match- for the National Marrow Donor Registry.
Kappa Alpha's social calendar stays busy throughout the year. With regular cocktail date events and themed mixers with sororities, the chapter highlights their fall and spring semesters with some unique events.
KA annually hosts a concert with a popular musical artist in the courtyard.
Every fall, Upsilon chapter hosts a large tailgate with musical entertainment for family and alumni to attend.
Each spring the chapter organizes an out of town weekend. Popular destinations include Charleston and Savannah
